Announcements
Here come the trees
Rain or shine, Saturday, November 15, East Falls Tree
Tenders (EFTT) is providing East Falls with 58 trees.
EFTT and Philadelphia University students will be
planting 35 TreeVitalize street trees, which, once
planted, will come under the jurisdiction of the
Fairmount Park Commission (FPC). The other trees
will be planted by Laurel Hill Cemetery. These
trees are brought to this community via the
TreeVitalize Program, which is an inititiative of the
PA Department of Conservation and Natural
Resources' initiative to restore Pennsylvania's
decimated tree canopy. Other partners working with EFTT
include the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and
the Philadelphia Water Department.
35 of these trees will be planted on the following
streets: Bowman (3400), Midvale, Coulter (3100),
Scotts Lane (3500), Stanton (3600), Queen Lane
(3100 & 3200), and Warden Drive (3300 & 3400).
Please help us by not parking your car next to a
designated planting site. These sites are
identified by painted white marks on the ground.
If you are out on Saturday morning and chance upon
these stalwart bands of hearty volunteers, please
give them a word of encouragement and inquire as to
what kind of tree they are planting. All trees were
selected to fit into their site under FPC
guidelines and with an eye to the overall streetscape.
If you are interested in securing a tree for your
street in the future, then contact Cynthia Kishinchand
at crk3114@msn.com or (215) 849-2474.
