Kindly register on time and help us ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Baseball/Softball season.
All first time registrants must register in person at McDevitt Recreation Center, 3501 Scotts Lane (off Indian Queen Lane behind MCP) and bring a copy of proof of age (e.g., birth certificate, driver's license). Returning players are also welcome to register at McDevitt. A parent or guardian must sign the registration application and the release and insurance acknowledgement on the back of the registration application.
Registrations will be taken at McDevitt on the following dates and times:

STONE SOUP
Saturday February 11th

Be a part of the story, Stone Soup, as we create a vegetarian soup over the campfire. All participants are asked to bring a vegetable to contribute to the soup. While the soup simmers, we’ll take a short hike to explore the different rocks in the area. Afterwards, warm up around the fire with our Stone Soup and bread. This event is FREE. All ages.

Maple Sugar Day

Join us on Forbidden Drive (near Northwestern Avenue) for our annual MAPLE SUGAR DAY. There will be ongoing maple sugaring demonstrations, pancakes served with real maple syrup, a taste test of many different pancake toppings, as well as freshly made maple candy to taste. Pennsylvania maple syrup products will be available for purchase. This event is FREE. All ages. Registration NOT NECESSARY:)
Maple Sugar Time for Tots

Spend the afternoon with your young child discovering how maple syrup is made. Taste the fresh sap as it drips from the tree, and warm up near a fire as the sap is boiled into maple syrup. Top off the day by enjoying our home-made syrup on pancakes. Ages 3-5. $2.00/person.
OCEAN COMMOTION

Shed the winter blues and learn about the Big Blue! Take a deep sea dive and learn about what crazy creatures live in our darkest waters. Then we’ll return to the surface and examine what makes sea creatures unique! *This class will include dissections and we ask that children have no known allergies to shell fish! During the Victorian period, the burial customs and places used by western society changed greatly and for a variety of reasons. Join up for a discussion inside Laurel Hill Cemetery’s historic Gatehouse concerning the rituals surrounding the death of a loved one, including clothing, burial processions, monuments and symbolism. Following the presentation, a tour will highlight monuments and gravestones illustrating the mourning symbolism discussed earlier, and focusing on individuals who lived (and died) in this period, such as famed painter Thomas Sully and publisher of Godey’s Lady’s Book, Louis Antoine Godey. This walking tour will be led by Victorian-era living historians and Friends board members, Ed and Mary Quinn. It will conclude with cookies and refreshments.

Join up for this informative overview of Laurel Hill's long and colorful history, which will include many of the marble masterpieces, stunning views and legendary stories that afford the cemetery its WOW factor. This is the ultimate tour for first-time visitors to Laurel Hill, and anyone else who likes beautiful art, stimulating history, and just enjoying life...even amongst the dead. This walking tour will be led by Friends researcher and board member, Laura Symczyk. NEW Hot Spots and Storied Plots will be presented monthly as part of Laurel Hill Cemetery’s Fourth Friday tour series, which take place on the fourth Friday of every month at 10:00am.
